Haifa University Haifa University University of Haifa - MA Program in Peace and Conflict Management Studies

Welcome to the University of Haifa!

The MA Program in Peace and Conflict Management Studies is a rigorous, one-year program of study that introduces the field of conflict management through both international and regional lenses. While special attention will be given to Middle East conflicts, the program will also present conceptual, comparative and practical elements of conflict management from different parts of the world. In addition to the great variety of courses within fields such as Political Science, International Relations, Psychology, Sociology, Communications, History and Middle East Studies, the program offers a wide range of exciting and enriching activities. These activities include field trips throughout Israel connected to local and regional conflicts; a Practicum component in NGOs related to aspects of peacemaking and conflict management; thoughtful simulations of decision-making, negotiations and conflict management; and guest lectures given by activists, practitioners, politicians, diplomats, academics and former military officials.

Due to its special history and location, Israel is a unique place to study conflicts and their sources as well as diverse and intriguing methods and strategies to manage and resolve them. This is particularly true for the city of Haifa. With an ethnically and religiously diverse population and bustling industry, the city of Haifa provides the perfect backdrop for students from around the globe to come together to learn about conflict and peacemaking. While Haifa - as an Israeli and Middle Eastern city - is obviously not exempt from regional conflicts and their effects, this city is widely considered to be the most successful example of peaceful coexistence in Israel.

As a result of the highly diverse community of Haifa, both the city and the university are a living classroom. Issues of conflicts, resolutions and coexistence are heavily emphasized in academic studies - and in daily life - for this very reason. While studying in the program, you will have many opportunities to get to know other international students from all over the world as well as Israeli students from a great variety of backgrounds. You will also get the chance to practice with fellow students in the optional language lessons in both Hebrew and Arabic.

The University of Haifa is located in the north of Israel on top of Mount Carmel with a breathtaking view of the sea and the Carmel forest - one of the largest, and most attractive, natural reserves in Israel. It has an enrollment of 18,000 and is one of Israel's leading research universities.

We invite you to take part in our unique and stimulating program and become one of the many students who have chosen the University of Haifa for their international study experience.
